Splash Winterfall regained consciousness inside the agency infirmary, struggling to recall what had befallen him…
His first mission upon arriving in Dark Atlantis was supposed to be simple. He and D. B. Gengar would follow the skeleton Drake Bonecastle, and report back on his activities in Dead End. After losing sight of the target, the team enlisted the support of Shadow and found Drake inside an abandoned church in the Old District.
A cloaked figure entered the church, and after a brief discussion with Drake he revealed a mysterious black box. At this point, the church was attacked by Spike, Devil General Bartholomew, and a shambling mound of vines. There was a moment of confusion as the assailants argued heatedly over who would claim the box for their master.
The vine monster made a grab for it, but was instantly torn in two by Spike and Bartholomew. Taking advantage of the confusion Splash managed to drop a Tracer Stone on the box.
A lull in the argument alerted Bartholomew to the sound of someone breathing, and he drew his trident head from his body and hurled it into the shoulder of D. B. Gengar.
The agents, desperate to prevent Bartholomew from reuniting, began dragging his head through the streets while his body followed in hot pursuit. As D. B. Gengar distracted their foe, Splash dunked the screaming trident into a nearby stone well. Bartholomew’s body was last seen ripping the well apart with his bare hands in a frantic attempt to prevent himself from drowning.
Splash returned to the church to investigate, whereupon he was buried in rubble from a collapsing walkway. When he awoke he was being treated in the agency infirmary. He suffered no permanent damage, but D. B. Gengar’s arm had to be amputated due to the severity of his wounds.
